EUROREGIO 2010 conference for young researchers

Hello everyone,
 
We have very good news: the EAA is organizing a conference with a special focus on PhD students and young researchers. The conference, 'EUROREGIO 2010', will be held on September 15^th to 18th, 2010, in Slovenia. This event differs from 'normal' conferences in that it is strongly  focussed on young researchers, so basically it is a conference for us. Not only are young researchers invited to present their scientific work, but those who are interested can also contribute to organizational aspects, e.g., in hosting a session in conjunction with a senior researcher. The EAA student network is involved in the organisation of this event. So this is your chance to contribute your thoughts!
 
The structure and proceedings of the conference are not yet confirmed. At this point, the plan is as follows:
 
- Structured sessions organized by a senior researcher in conjunction with a young
researcher;
- Workshops (summer schools) on certain topics (probably with ECTS credits);
- A best paper award;
- Comprehensive social events addressed to young researchers;
- A job forum for industrial firms and research centers;
- Together with the EAA executive council we, the student network, have decided to ask our student network members for their opinions on the plans for the conference.
 
We would like to know your answers to the following questions, which will be posted as a forum on the student network website:
 
- What are your thoughts on the event itself? Does it interest you?
- Which fields of acoustics should be covered (e.g. computational  acoustics, underwater acoustics, virtual acoustics, numerical acoustics, ...)
- Which topics should be covered by the summer schools (multiple summer schools are planned, but we have to decide on the contents)?
- Do you have any ideas for the social program?
 
We, the student network organizers, are very happy that the EAA is giving young researchers this great opportunity. Please make best use of this opportunity to contribute your thoughts and ideas in the context of the EAA student network forum.
 
The next meeting of the organizing committee takes place in mid July, when I will report on our current status. We have until then to contribute and discuss our preferences for the conference.

I would like to have a session on 'Virtual acoustics' and/or 'Auralization'. Are you interested in a summer school on this field of acoustics.

This is actually a good news to know about the 'EUROREGIO 2010' organization. I've already participated to a similar conference this year (European workshop for young PhD students in hearing science) and it was really interesting.

Hi everyone!

I also like the idea very much. Eventhough I do not know what I will be doing in the next year, I would definitely like to have a session on hearing...maybe split into experimental work an modeling stuff (psychoacoustics, models of the auditory system in all flavours: filters to neurons). I guess also a poster session might make sense... For the social event, I would suggest a bar-night (that was always pretty good at previous conferences) and possibly sth. local....for that we might need sb. "on-site".

I think that this is a really good idea!  I agree that a poster session would be a good idea.  I would like a session on transportation noise if that is possible, although I feel that this could also make an interesting workshop topic. 

When it comes to the social program I quite like events which explore the tradition and heritage of the country where the conference takes place!

Hi,

I think experimental work is an excellent idea also for transportation noise and whatever because I think summer school should not be like the conference (everyone sitting in armchairs...) instead should be a practical school and an opportunity to look at most updated technologies. I think we also should plann a practical session about soundscape in particular about how we can improve it (maybe going outside in a real noisy place). Well that's all for the moment!
