Ph.D. workshop in hearing science 28.-29. April 2006

This is an invitation for interested European Ph.D. students from the broad field of hearing science to a two-day workshop with the topic "PROFESSIONAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR HEARING SCIENTISTS".

TIME: 28-29 April 2006 (arrival on Thursday evening, April 27, workshop ends after lunch on Saturday, April 29)

PLACE: Historisch-Ökologische Bildungsstätte, Spillmannsweg 30, 26871 Papenburg, Germany (http://www.hoeb.de)

Papenburg is a small town in the North-West of Germany, about 100 km to the south-west of Oldenburg.

COSTS: EUR 95, which includes two overnight stays in a double room from Thursday to Saturday and meals for the full time of the workshop. If you arrive in the morning of 28 April you have to pay EUR 30 less (i.e., a total of EUR 65). For a single room you will have to pay an extra of EUR 10/night.

GOAL: The goal of this workshop is to provide an overview about professional opportunities for Ph.D. students in audition. In order to give first-hand information we will have a number of invited speakers, representing industries (car industry, consumer electronics, hearing aids) and academic and public research institutions. Furthermore, we will also give information about programs by the European Union (e.g., the Marie Curie program) which provide funding for postgraduate and postdoctoral research positions. Besides these presentation, we want to stimulate the exchange between the participants. All participants are therefore asked to give a short (5 min.) presentation about their present research activity.

PARTICIPANTS: Ph.D. students in the broad area of audition from European universities. The maximum number of participants is 40.

ORGANIZERS: This workshop is organized on behalf of the Technical Committee Psychological and Physiological Acoustics of the European Acoustics Association (EAA) and by the InterGK "Neurosensory Science and Systems" at the universities at Oldenburg and Groningen and by the coordinated research project SFB/TRR 31 "The active Auditory System" at the universities Oldenburg and Magdeburg. Responsible are: Georg Klump, U Oldenburg, Germany) and Armin Kohlrausch (Philips Research and TU Eindhoven, Netherlands).
