Description
For the project "A finite-element model of human phonation with fluid-structure interaction" three positions for scientific co-workers are available from July 1, 2008 at three departments of RWTH Aachen University and the University Hospital Aachen for the duration of two years.
The project aims at the development and optimisation of a finite-element model of the vocal fold function. The vocal fold oscillation as well as the flow through the larynx shall be modelled. Basis for the model are exact data of the concerned organs and tissues. Several assessment methods are employed to obtain these individual parameters.
In the experimental task at the Chair of Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology of RWTH Aachen University at the University Hospital Aachen, individual geometric and elastic tissue properties of the laryngeal tissues are measured using optic, acoustic, and electro mechanic methods. These parameters are then prepared for use in the numerical structure model. The task includes the development of multi modal measurement methods for assessment in volunteers and patients as well as support of the co-operation with the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) where investigations of tissue parameters are carried out.
A full position TV-L 13 is offered with the possibility of promotion to a doctoral degree.
The chair of phoniatrics and Pedaudiology offers professional equipment and rooms for assessment of voice properties including own developments of sensors, devices and software.
The applicant should have a university degree in electrical engineering. Experience in development and application of biomedical measurement techniques are beneficial.
