3 PhD positions - experimental and numerical aeroacoustics

At the newly installed International Graduate School of Technical
University of Cottbus (BTU) a number of PhD positions are available.

The team of the subject group “Compressor Technologies and Materials” is
looking for three candidates for PhD projects on aeroacoustic topics.
The subject group is involved with several topics from aeroengine
compressor technologies and materials and is also working together with
partners from aerospace industry.

Positions offered on the following experimental and numerical
aeroacoustic topics:

1. influence of stator vane geometry on turbofan sound emission,

2. numerical simulation of noise generation on vane cascades,

3. analysis of sound generation at vanes by coupled acoustic and flow
sensor technology.

We are searching for candidates with an excellent background in
acoustics, fluid mechanics or numerical mathematics that hold an MSc or
University Diploma Degree. Candidates must enrol as PhD students and
must be willing to participate in the interdisciplinary research and
teaching programme of the subject group “Compressor Technologies and
Materials” and pursue the individual research topic in such a way that a
thesis is finished by end of 2009.

We offer close supervision in an interdisciplinary context and adequate
research infrastructure within the framework of the subject group and
the International Graduate School.

PhD students will be offered a stipend of 1800€ net (tax free) per
month, starting as soon as possible and ending by 31-December-2009.

We are looking forward for highly motivated, independent applicants that
are able to work well in a group. A sufficient knowledge of German or
English is required.
