Description
The Acoustics groups of the department of mechanical engineering, the department of building physics and the department of Physics have a postdoctoral position in numerical acoustics
The project aims at developing a fast and simple technique to obtain the frequency dependent elastic modulus of poro-visco elastic materials. These materials are widely used as damping or sound attenuating materials but the material properties are often inaccurately known, leading to large uncertainties in numerical calculations. The existing techniques are often limited to the low-frequency regime (quasi-static) or are time consuming. A simple and reliable method to evaluate the viscoelastic properties of acoustic materials would offer a solution to this problem.
The candidate is expected to develop a fast and efficient numerical method to extract the frequency dependent elastic modulus from the response of a test sample to an acoustical excitation. The candidate is expected to have some background in numerical methods for acoustics or solid and structural dynamics and an interest in material characterization. The participating groups have considerable experience in this field to support the candidate.
